So last year, I wrote to the list asking for suggestions for a movie
for our December 24th Chinese dinner & a movie event. A couple of
people asked that I share the responses with the group. I never did
get to it, but since I'm now seeing Christmas decorations at the
mall, it must be time to post this.
The movie we ended up showing was Foreign Letters, which is a lovely
film about a young Israeli girl who moves to the US with her family,
and how she tries to adapt to her new life. Much of the story is told
through letters she sends to her best friend from Israel. Based on
the director's own life. We got the performance rights through The
Film Movement.
Other suggestions that I received:

Check out <http://www.go2films.com>www.go2films.com. They distribute
films all over the world. I've reviewed quite a few for the AJL
Newsletter, and I found them all interesting and thought-provoking.
They have a section for children's films. I liked Dolphin Boy, which
is about an Arab boy who was traumatized and brought to Eilat for
"Dolphin therapy," but the premise is probably not for young kids.

I think the movie Noodle has a G rating which is about a Chinese
child in Israel.

When I was a child, the movie Sallah
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sallah_Shabati was shown to my Hebrew
school class.
The movie was very entertaining (I still remember it, and it's been a
LONG time since I was in Hebrew school!!!!)
It's an old black and white movie, but the storyline (the trials and
tribulations of a Yemeni immigrant family in Israel in the early
years of the country) is great! It stars Topol, who played Tevye in
the Fiddler on the Roof movie.
It might be in Hebrew with English subtitles, so it might not be
appropriate for the very youngest children, who can't read, but
everyone else will enjoy it!

Ushpizin is great and anything from the Ma'aleh film school in
Jerusalem (The Orthodox Way is my favorite-- it's about a blind date
and it's hysterically funny) is appropriate. There's also a very
good movie "Arranged" that's not about Israel but about a
Jewish/Moslem friendship here in the States.

and cried during this movie about a Druse girl in the Golan Heights
who is scheduled to marry a Syrian TV star.
