Dear Hasafranim,
Please see note below. I am posting this request from Ivy Weingram, Associate Curator of NMAJH. Please send any information to Ivy Weingram. THANK YOU! Francine Menken / Director, Meyers Library / JCC, W. Bloomfield, MI "I am looking for a 1948 United Synagogue publication in Hebrew or possibly Yiddish entitled Chaim Pumpernikel. As I understand it, Chaim Pumpernikel was the title character of a children’s book that was intended to teach simple Hebrew to young children, most likely immigrants (so maybe it’s Hebrew AND Yiddish?). It did so through Hank Greenberg’s story (Hank was Chaim’s hero, as the story goes). I am organizing an exhibition called Chasing Dreams: Baseball and Becoming American to open here at the National Museum of American Jewish History in March, and I’d love to exhibit this book but have not found one for sale or easily accessible in a public collection. Have you heard of or even seen this title? Many thanks for any assistance you can provide!
