I am writing to you all on a very bittersweet day. It is my last day at
Gratz as well as the last day of my professional life. I wanted to share a
few thoughts with you all.

For 42 years I have given my best to my patrons and others with
bibliographic needs. I have spent my professional life in the trenches
where real librarianship serves it intended purpose. I have presented
papers and workshops as well as mentoring excellent professionals. Some
people seek national prominence in their professional lives and that in
pursuing that quest will sometimes forget the ultimate aim of our
profession, helping people find their way in their search for information.
One of my life long goals was to help people navigate through primary
rabbinic sources. I feel that my mark has been left in this area,

I wish all of you who remain in the profession to remember that you are the
information broker for those seeking guidance through masses of
information. The electronic age has not lessened the importance of our
profession.

The best to you all.

Eli Wise
