Thanks to everyone who responded to my earlier announcement about moving my Jewish Writers directory. http://bit.ly/jwriters

I received several notes with suggestions for new entries and where they fit the scope of literary contributions, I'm working on making those additions. I have a backlog of more than 2,000 authors I've identified through other sources which need research before I can add them to the public list. If you do come forward with suggestions, I appreciate it if you could include some identifying details to move the work along.

In the meantime, I thought members might want to know that I just added a new Jewish Women Writers page to the directory. As I mentioned, one of the advantages of the new Google Site venue is that it provides search capability, allowing users to pinpoint aspects such as genre and geography - mystery, children, young adult, Hungary, Australia – across the directories alphabetical organization. While this if far from perfect, I noticed that gender was even less accessible and I decided to extract a selection of women writers from the longer list to highlight their contributions.

As before, suggestions are welcome.

Thank you,

I just moved my directory of Jewish Writers to its new home on Google
sites at
        http://bit.ly/jwriters

I may make additional enhancements but it already as all the content
and functionality of the old site, plus a bit more. Navigation is
better on the new site and the search function means you can track down
writers by criteria (geography, genre, awards) across the alpha
arrangement. It's still not database-drive but it is handier than before.

If you have linked to it from other sites, please update your links. If
you maintain directories or guides of Jewish interest, especially
literature, please add this link.

For those who didn't know about this list, I started it in 2006,
initially as a modest (and naive) attempt at identifying major Jewish
authors. I quickly discovered that I couldn't draw a cut-off line to
distinguish "major" from others – Frederick Kohner might be a minor
literary light but the fact that he wrote Gidget makes him worth knowing
abou – and the list expanded into the hundreds and then thousands.
Various research projects, including a survey of Jewish anthologies,
have supplied names for the list and it now stands at over 5,000.

I moved it from my library's Wiki site today in order to ensure that I
can continue to maintain independently it the future.
