How Transmedia Storytelling Can Transform Literacy and Learning
Hosted by the Association of Specialized and Cooperative Library Agencies 
(ASCLA)
 This presentation will introduce you to an exciting new literary form called 
transmedia storytelling that can serve as a powerful tool for developing 21st 
century literacy skills. Using an exemplary of that form, Inanimate Alice, 
you'll learn how transmedia storytelling can be used in libraries and 
classrooms to inspire learners of all ages to read, create and imagine in the 
digital world.

The webinar will address the following questions:

  *   What is transmedia storytelling?
  *   How does transmedia storytelling facilitate literacy and learning?
  *   How can transmedia storytelling be used in libraries and classrooms?
  *   How does transmedia storytelling align to learning standards (e.g. AASL, 
Common Core, NETS)
Learning Objectives

  *   Develop an understanding of the elements of transmedia storytelling.
  *   Learn to recognize examples of transmedia storytelling.
  *   Develop an understanding of how transmedia storytelling facilitates 
literacy skills.
  *   Become aware of resources, tools and activities for integrating 
transmedia storytelling into digital literacy initiatives.

  *   Those involved in school-public library partnerships
  *   Those involved in state initiatives for digital literacy
Presenter
Amanda Hovious has worked extensively in public and academic libraries, and is 
currently working independently as she transitions toward establishing herself 
as a consultant for the "pedagogy of multiliteracies." She holds an MLIS from 
the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and is completing her Masters in 
Instructional Design and Technology from the University of North Dakota. 
Recently, Amanda became a member of the Inanimate Alice team, and has written 
several pieces about the transmedia storytelling project (available
