Once again hitting the topic regarding the overlap between Modern Israeli
Culture, Media and Hebrew Literature I would like to mention a new book by
Shai Stern, entitled, 'Ha-khi Normali She-Yesh,' As Normal As It Gets. It is
a novel written in modern Hebrew prose. The book's central character is a
Jerusalem "film maker," (and his normalcy?). The author is also a rising
star on Israeli TV and has a major evening talk, variety program. Published

Amir Gutfruend has written a new novel entitled, 'the Legend of Bruno and
Adella, 'Agadat Bruno ve-Adella.' The book is a murder mystery which
stretches from modern Tel Aviv to WWII Poland. The murders and the book make
reference to the writing of Polish Jewish Author Bruno Schultz and weave a
thriller that entwines an Israeli homicide detective and (echos of) the
Sho'ah. The book is destined to be a classic of Israeli Hebrew Literature.

We would like to inform you about an important book published by the World
Union of Jewish Studies, entitled, 'Rabbi Elazar Berabbi Qillir Liturgical
Poems for Rosh Hashana.' Published in Hebrew in Israel, 978-965-7418-03-1.
The book is scholarly, naturally and enormously important. The book is based
on approximately four hundred manuscripts many from the Cairo Geniza. The
book explores the piyyut, liturgical poetry on Rosh Hashana, Jewish New Year
by Rabbi El'azar Berabbi Qillir, who lived and wrote in Israel of the 7th
Century CE.
The book is important from a Hebrew Language and Hebrew poetry standpoint as
well as philology and the research into these religious prayers which have
been added to and revised after hundreds of years. There is copious new,
previously unpublished material.
This book is essential for any library, faculty, scholar of Jewish Studies,

Some very interesting and important translations, that you may want:
Ets Hayim ve-Ets ha-Da'at, Tree of Life Tree of Knowledge,' by Michael
Rosenak with new Hebrew forward by Avi Rosenak. He and nadav Berman Shifman
did the translation. Isbn 978-965-545-911-1. Published by Yediot 439pp. The
book is both Bible commentary and teaching. This is a really important work
but many will have the original in English. Cat. $ 37.00
The author's son Avinoam Rosenak has published a scholarly and significant
work, 'Ha-yahadut ha-reformit : hagut, tarbut ve-chevra,' 'Reform Judaism,
Thought, Culture and Sociology, 978-965-02-0712-0. The book is over 500

Magnes has published, 'Be-tsiporne ha-Reikh ha-shelishi, In the Talons of
the Third Reich, Willy Cohen's Diary 1933-1941, 978-965-493-737-5. 1044 pp.

Mossad Bialik has published, ' Madrikh le-Inkevisitor, Manuel de
l'Inquisiteur, by Bernard Gui, Translated from Latin, with Introduction,
Annotation and Afterword by Shulamit Shahar, isbn 978-965-536-141-4. This
is very important and short, 144pp, so I am most certain that many of you
will want this addition to your collection. While many if not most
research libraries do not want translations, in general I have found that
there is a serious and reasonable exception for important books that are
accessible to scholars in another language. Such as Jewish students and
scholars studying philosophy, history, holocaust in Hebrew rather than,

Mossad Harav Kook has published a reprint / offset of the 1955, Lema'an
Tsiyon Lo Ekhase, by R' Y.L. Hacohen Maimon. The book is an important
chronicle of leaders and ideas in Jewish Life and Philosophy from the waning
and flaming, bloody years of 'exile to redemption.' The author's journey
from Bessarabia to Lithuanaia and Israel. It is important, Israel -
Palestine History, and History of Zionism as well. Relations both
ideological, political and religious between different streams and movements
of Jews are the subject of this work. Worth acquiring for Jewish Studies or
Israel Studies, if the collection does not have the earlier edition. Cat.
