Abstract:
The article discusses the personal and political relationship between former
Israeli prime minister and defense minister David Ben-Gurion and former Israeli
Defence Forces (IDF) chief of the general staff Moshe Dayan. The author asserts
that Ben-Gurion shepherded Dayan's military career and Dayan's rise in the
chain of command of the IDF. The author analyzes Ben-Gurion's confidence in
Dayan as a military commander and Ben-Gurion's attitude toward military
leaders. The article also discusses Dayan's alleged appreciation for the role
Ben-Gurion had in his military career, and notes that Dayan was not averse to
opposing various political policies promoted by Ben-Gurion.
