*Director, Rauh Jewish History Program and Archives*



The Heinz History Center’s Rauh Jewish History Program and Archives is
dedicated to preserving and interpreting the history of the Jews of Western
Pennsylvania. The Director oversees all aspects of this program and serves
as a liaison between the History Center, Rauh Jewish History Program &
Archives Advisory Committee, and the region’s Jewish Community. This work
includes collecting and preserving records, artifacts, and other
collections of historical value that document the Jewish experience in
Western Pennsylvania; developing exhibits and public programs relevant to
the community while highlighting the collection; disseminating educational
materials through publications, radio, television, and the internet; and
supporting the efforts of the History Center through membership and program
attendance.



The History Center is Pittsburgh’s oldest (1879) cultural institution and
has, in collaboration with others, been actively engaged in preserving
Jewish history since 1970. Today the Rauh Jewish Archives houses nationally
significant collections of personal papers, business records, photographs,
film, sound recordings, oral histories, and synagogue and civic
organization records. The History Center also maintains a collection of
artifacts related to Jews in Western Pennsylvania. Researchers’ access
collections online and through the History Center’s Detre Library.



Programs may include lectures, exhibitions, workshops, performances, films,
and other activities. Program Priorities for 2015-2016:

   - Raise awareness of the Rauh Jewish History Program & Archives
   - Expand efforts to preserve the history of those Jewish communities in
   Western Pennsylvania which are experiencing decreasing populations and the
   closure of synagogues
   - Collaborate on programs with other Jewish community organizations and
   institutions (e.g., the Agency for Jewish Learning, the Holocaust Center,
   Jewish Federation, etc.)
   - Updated and promote the website showcasing family collections, now
   underway as part of the Heinz History Center website
   - Complete work on a Jewish visitors guide to History Center
   - Begin development of an exhibition on the Jewish experience in Western
   Pennsylvania (this may become a temporary, long-term, or traveling exhibit)
   - Contribute to the *We Can Do It!: WWII* exhibition (April 2015-January
   2016)
   - Cooperate with Development Division to increase membership and raise
   money to support the efforts of the Jewish History Program.



*Qualifications*: Graduate degree in history or related field; knowledge of
Jewish history; experience with archival research; excellent written and
oral communication skills; demonstrated project management and leadership
ability.
