Etta Gold asked about bringing a poet to her school. If you collect some
suitable poems, you can have the students read them aloud or do so yourself.

*The Hunting of the Snark* by Lewis Carroll has a tragic hero (the Baker)
who is Jewish. You can see *The Annotated Snark* by Martin Gardner at
http://www.scribd.com/doc/110512434/The-Annotated-Hunting-of-the-Snark
This poem is divided into 8 "fits." A different student could read each fit.
>From Fit the Fourth:

"I said it in Hebrew--I said it in Dutch--
I said it in German and Greek:
But I wholly forgot (and it vexes me much)
That English is what you speak!"

I sometimes write limericks. They are OK for librarians, but too risque for
young students. For example, *Aphrodite as an Anthropomorphic Map *is a
6-verse limerick with side-notes that describe the Phoenician body-part map
of Aphrodite in North Africa. Its toponyms sound Hebraic because Phoenician
was also a Western Semitic language with a lexicon that was very similar to
Hebrew.

Pesach begins Friday eve April 3 this year. Hebrew lyrics from the Haggadah
may be appropriate. The *Dry Bones Haggadah* illustrated by cartoonist
Ya'akov Kirschen is especially suitable for kids. Every Jewish library with
an English-speaking clientele should have a copy. I'll post a separate
notice about it. If you order the hard copy now it should arrive in time
for Pesach. The eBook will arrive very quickly. You can access the lyrics
for *Adir Hu* and *Had Gadya* (2 files) in the public folder of my Dropbox.
