I loved Linda Glaser's Bridge to America.After finishing each chapter, you have 
to read the next.I make the point that these Coming-to-America stories are the 
stories of the children's own great grandparents, i.e. "your own stories" of 
family members who courageously left the world they knew to come, often as 
teenagers, to a new world; the kids often tell a bit of what they do know about 
their family members who came from Europe.  I also love the very easy-to-read, 
charming Looking for Me...in this Great Big Family, by Betsy Rosenthal  Andrea 
Rapp, Wise Temple Cincinnati
