As a non-librarian, I've been reluctant to jump into this discussion but
now finally I must. We must redefine ourselves – – and mean it – – as *Jewish
information management specialists.* *Any fool can Google a term. *Figuring
out what is an appropriate search strategy to solve an issue requires a
high level of expertise which I think is shared by most members of this
group.

One of the most important people in both my PhD work in my wife's PhD work
was a woman at the Michigan State University library named Martha Meaders,
now listed on the Michigan State University website as simply "retired
faculty."

With luck one could schedule appointment with Martha and sit down and
describe the problems that one was trying to solve, and she would help lay
out an entire search strategy of the relevant literature so one did not
stumble around from source to source or card file to card file and so on.

"Judaica" is an enormous topic, of which the books we have in our
particular libraries are one small sampling. We need people people who can
help children and adults find relevant books, websites and magazine
articles that speak to topics of interest.
