Winegarden recounts episodes in the life of Jacob Winegarden, an agnostic
Jewish professor of theoretical physics whose specialty is thought
experimentation. It tells a larger personal story of grief and survival, the
ambivalence and persistence of love, and the meaning of being Jewish.Anthony
Ferner was professor of at De Montfort University and has been a member of
the Tindal Street Fiction Group since 2010. His short story The Cat It Is
That appeared in the anthology The Sea In Birmingham, in 2013.
It has that great old Jewish quality of combining high seriousness with low
playfulness, it is rich and ironic and not ironic, subversive yet curiously
traditional: it holds one's attention, it provokes one into thought of
