I had the pleasure of traveling to Kaifeng with Mr. Xu a few years back to meet indigenous Chinese people who claim to be descendants of the Jews of China whose history goes back to about the 12th century. He holds the equivalent of the Chair of Judaica at Nanjing University, and he periodically plans symposia on Jewish cultural matters for Chinese professors across the country. A most interesting gentleman!
