In this case, the pre-Electronic Age School of Thought works like a
dream for us. With construction paper, index cards and shoe boxes, we
have re-invented the olden-times Reader Card System. The reader removes
the book card from inside the book, puts it into their Reader Card,
tosses the filled Reader Card into the handy shoe box left in the middle
of the table, and helps themselves to a chocolate in the pretty ceramic
plate (that I bought so many years ago up in Teruel).
The reader card is a side-opening card. I have uploaded to Photobucket

The colours of the cards have nothing to do with anything. I pulled out
all of adecuate spare bits of card stock left stashed in the arts and
crafts box. I folded and glue-sticked the paper then rounded the front
top corner with scissors. It measures 2.5x3.5inches. The cards have the
Rules of the House printed on them front and back as such:

Starting with the 2nd year of membership, the member may check out books
A member may take out one book per Reader Card
The owner of the card is responsable for the good health of the book
until its safe return
The book must be back within a fortnight.
The librarian can recall the book at any time if needs be
If the book is lost or damaged beyond normal use, the owner of the card
must replace the book.
