Martina, the Beautiful Cockroach by Carmen Agra Deedy (Peachtree, 2007) is one
of my favorites. Her abuela's clever advice about testing her suitors reminds
me of some of the Jewish folktales.

The House of Memory: Stories by Jewish Women Writers of Latin America (The
Helen Rose Scheuer Jewish Women's Series) edited by Marjorie Agosin includes
several stories by Cuban writers but they would mostly be appropriate for an
adult audience.

  Subject: [ha-Safran] Cuban stories

  Hello Hasafran,

A challenge for those of you who can spit out stories. I already looked in
the Jewish Storyteller and the AJL value finder.

I need a short story, folktale, midrash, children's book that takes place in
Cuba. It is for the short story book club.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  Thanks
