Dear colleagues: We have just counted 18 people who have registered for the 51st AJL Conference in Charleston SC. AJL Hai!! (on the tune of Am Yisrael Hai!!)
I am also glad that the program Irene, Gail and I have put together (with the help of Peggy Pearlstein, Michlean Amir and Amalia) is to your liking and that you are all excited about joining us and learning together and from each other. I had mentioned a few months ago that I was trying to get the members of the Emanuel AME Church in Charleston SC to join us for a joint program or just to attend so we can show our solidarity with their church. I have talked with one of the lay persons in the church but I haven't yet heard about their participation or attendance. I am still pursuing it - we still have three and a half months before we meet - and I really hope that I shall soon share with you the good news that they are joining us. This will be very gratifying to all of us.
