I need some help figuring out the mechanics of producing spine labels for our
collection. We're starting out cataloging our Temple library collection from
scratch, so we need fairly basic information.

As background, I've already shared that we selected Libib as our online catalog
platform. So far we've input about 1,000 volumes of an anticipated 4,000
total. We're using Weine to classify the collection. Libib allows us to
download a CSV spreadsheet with our data, including the call numbers we've
assigned. I've managed to learn a few tricks with Excel to format the call
numbers in a "spine ready" configuration. But we've hit a few speed bumps
getting to the next stage.

My primary questions are:
• What's the best way to get from a column of text to ready-to-apply labels?
I'm chipping away at using Word's MailMerge function but the learning curve has
been steeper than I'd hoped and, if it isn't going to get us where we need to
get, I'd like to know now, rather than later.
• Therefore, if you have a handy labeling utility that you can recommend, I'd
like to hear about it.
• Along a related thread, if you have an all-in-one system (e.g. Dymo or
Brother labeler, software, label stock) that works for you, this would also be
helpful.
• Any product reviews, good or bad, or advice you wish to share from your
experience would be appreciated as well. Are some label brands better than
others? Is there a size you recommend?

Please, if your solution is catalog vendor specific (i.e. your provider
produces your labels), that won't be helpful. If folks want to reply to me
directly, I can summarize responses for the list.

Thank you for whatever you can share,
