James Madison University (JMU) Libraries invites applications for a full-time, 
tenure-track Science and Mathematics Librarian. The JMU Libraries are part of 
the Libraries and Educational Technologies (LET) Division, which includes two 
main libraries, several branch libraries, and the Center for Instructional 
Technology. LET is established as a campus leader in information literacy 
instruction, research support, curricular and special collections, and 
educational technology integration. This position is part of a period of 
exciting organizational change, including new administration and structure, 
which is designed to build on these strengths while supporting a collaborative 
and innovative culture.

JMU is a public, comprehensive university of approximately 20,000 students 
located in the Shenandoah Valley two hours from Washington, D.C. The university 
has been ranked by U.S. News and World Report as the top-rated public regional 
Master's level university for seventeen consecutive years. The university 
places a strong emphasis on undergraduate research and offers 38 master's 
degree programs and 8 doctoral programs.

Salary is commensurate with experience. Tenure-track faculty positions have 
excellent benefits including 20 days of vacation and a choice of retirement

Faculty Status for Academic Libraries. Faculty status requires potential to

Liaison librarians at JMU work within a collaborative, team-oriented structure 
to:

- Support research and information literacy by serving as liaisons to faculty, 
students, staff and academic departments. This position is the liaison to JMU's 
College of Science and Mathematics (CSM), which includes the biology, chemistry 
and biochemistry, geology and environmental science, mathematics and 
statistics, and physics and astronomy departments.
- Provide a broad range of liaison services including outreach, information 
literacy instruction and collection management.
- Provide information services that promote student success and support faculty 
research, including general and specialized reference services, consultation 
services and innovative information delivery services.
- Assist in accreditation, program review and other official assessment 
processes.
- Contribute to the publication and presentation of relevant research at the 
national, state, university or departmental level.
- Demonstrate leadership and professional contributions in relevant service 
activities at the national, state, university or departmental level.

Required Qualifications:
- A master's degree in Library Science or Information Science from an ALA 
accredited institution.
- Demonstrated knowledge of science librarianship, including but not limited to 
familiarity with STEM information sources, technologies and information 
literacy fundamentals.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Undergraduate or graduate degree in a science discipline.
- Professional library experience in a science discipline.
- Teaching experience or familiarity with instruction planning, including 
online tutorials and library research guides.
- Familiarity with collections practice and methods.
- An understanding of scholarly communications, especially open access 
publishing and research data management in the sciences.
- Project management experience.
