Shalom,
AJL received the information below on a free DVD (30 minutes) with a guide,
lesson plan and promotional material. It was part of a grant from the
department of Justice community policing division .
I have not watched it yet, but it looks like a nice program idea for synagogue,
center, day school and other institutions.

“Waking in Oak Creek” Profiles Community’s Inspiring Response to Hate

Engage your community with compelling, high-impact public programming

Not In Our Town’s 30-minute film “Waking in Oak Creek” profiles the powerful
community response to the 2012 shooting at the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin. In the
year following the tragedy, thousands gather for vigils and community events to
honor the victims and seek connection. Young temple members, still grieving,
emerge as leaders in the quest to end the violence. Together, a community
rocked by hate is awakened and transformed by the Sikh spirit of relentless
optimism.

The film is a strong resource to spark dialogue and action addressing the need
to: actively respond to hate and intolerance; build bridges between different
groups in the community; and engage youth in building safe, inclusive
communities.

Libraries and community partners are invited to request free DVDs of “Waking in
Oak Creek” for public screenings, training workshops, educational programs, and
other community outreach activities.

Supplemental resources available to help plan and host screening events include
a Guide for Community Screenings, an Educator Lesson Plan, and promotional
materials, among others. Watch the film trailer, preview the film online in its
entirety, and download supplemental resources at:

“Waking in Oak Creek” is distributed through Not In Our Town’s Working Together
for Safe, Inclusive Communities initiative with the U.S. Department of Justice,
Office of Community Oriented Policing Services. Not In Our Town is a movement
to stop hate, address bullying, and build safe, inclusive communities for all.
