Several weeks ago I posted on Hasafran my inability to access the Federal
Depository Library from Israel. When I and many others in Israel tried to reach
the site (http://www.fdlp.gov/), we were greeted with the statement:
403: Access Forbidden Your location (IL) has been blacklisted.
Following some helpful suggestions from Anna Levia at Stamford and Pearl Berger
at YU, I tried to determine whether FDLP is available outside the US.

Through friends, I was able to determine that it IS accessible from the UK and
Canada.

I have written to the GPO contact email, my senator and congressman, and the
Superintendent of Documents asking whether this blocking of Israel is
intentional, an oversight or a hack. To date, I have not received an answer
from anyone.

Given the current environment of BDS, I find this blacklisting of Israel on a
US government site very troubling.

Therefore, I’m calling on AJL as an organization to contact the Superintendent
of Documents, Mary Alice Baish, ([email protected])
and request a response to this problem. I don’t think this is an issue we can
ignore.
