This is a reminder of the tours available at the conference and to please sign 
up now if you are interested in going by replying to this email with the number 
of the tour you want and the names of the people going.


AJL TOURS OF CHARLESTON: JUNE 19 and JUNE 22


TOUR #1: Walking Historic Tour, not including synagogue- 11:00 - 1:00 pm, 
Sunday, June 19 - $25.00


*         Description: Comprehensive walking tour of the Charleston Historic 
District. History, architecture, flowers, art, homes & gardens, public 
buildings and churches, parks and monuments, waterways and alleyways, and sites 
of Jewish interest. The synagogue is NOT included.

*         Where to meet: Meet your guide at 11:00 am at corner of East Bay 
Street and Vendue Range. (After registration, I will contact people with the 
guide's name and number.)

*         How to get there: A cab will cost about $10 and they will drop you 
off directly at the meeting place.  Cabs can be found outside the hotel lobby. 
The Marriott also has a hotel shuttle that leaves on each half hour will drop 
you off directly at the location of East Bay and Vendue Range. It is $6.00 for 
the round trip, payable to the driver onsite, and it is about a 15 minute ride. 
Tell the hotel if you wish to use the shuttle that morning. At the conclusion 
of the tour, you can return with the hotel shuttle or get a cab.

*         Tour cost: $25, payable to your guide at the start of tour.

*         This tour will only run if there are at least 10 registrants!



TOUR #2: Walking Historic Tour, including synagogue- 8:30 - 11:00 am, 
Wednesday, June 22 - $35.00


*         Description: Walking tour of the Kahal Kadosh Beth Elohim historic 
synagogue, and Charleston Historic District. History, architecture, flowers, 
art, homes & gardens, public buildings and churches, parks and monuments, 
waterways and alleyways, and sites of Jewish interest.

*         Where to Meet: Meet at the KKBE Synagogue on 90 Hasell Street at 8:30 
am for a 50 minute tour, inside the air-conditioned building. Then we will walk 
from there to see the historic sights of downtown Charleston.

*         How to get there: A cab will cost about $10 and they will drop you 
off directly at the synagogue.  Cabs can be found outside the hotel lobby. The 
Marriott also has a hotel shuttle that leaves on each half hour will drop you 
off at the only stop downtown, a 12 minute walk from the synagogue, if you wish 
to choose that form of transportation. It is $6.00 for the round trip, payable 
to the driver onsite, and it is about a 15 minute ride. Tell the hotel if you 
wish to use the shuttle that morning.

*         Tour cost: $35, collected by Lisa Silverman, IN CASH, in the lobby of 
the hotel, or at the start of the tour.

*         At the conclusion of the tour, you can walk back to get the 11:30 am 
return hotel shuttle and be back at the hotel at 12:00 noon, or you can take a 
cab. The hotel will store your luggage if you check out Wednesday morning.

TOUR #3: Addlestone Library Tour - 1:00 - 3:00 pm, Wednesday, June 22 - No 
Charge


*         Visit to the Addlestone Library at the College of Charleston.

*         Exact information on possible transportation, directions and meeting 
place location will be provided at the conference. The distance is 1.3 miles 
from the hotel.

*         NOTE: Many SSC members will have toured this library on Monday as 
part of the conference

*         LIMITED to 40 registrants.

Tour #4: Additional After-Conference Tour of Coming Street Jewish Cemetery- 
9:00 - 10:00 am, Thursday, June 23


*         Tour of the Coming Street Jewish Cemetery-established 1764, it is the 
oldest, extant Jewish cemetery in the South

*         Meet at 9:00 am at 189 Coming Street in downtown Charleston.

*         Meet your docent, Anita Rosenberg, at the location.

*         Transportation is not provided by the hotel. It is a 10 minute cab 
ride.

*         This tour will only run if there are at least 8 registrants.

*         Tour cost: $15, payable to your guide at the start of tour.
