I wrote directly but will post my response. I am familiar with them and
they seem both nice and honest. They are legit. I found them since the
local public library has a bin outside and we were wrestling with what to
do with discards.

They seem nice enough and donate books to Africa as well as places that
need them (they donated to places affected by Hurricane Katrina for
example).

They do take a profit; it was started by two Notre Dame students as a way
to both get rid of text books and make some extra change while in college.
I think if you can fill out 6 book cartons (which they will send you), they
will either pick up and/or ship the books at their expense. Depending on
how many boxes you fill -you get a small profit from the sales of your
books (you have to fill up a certain amount to profit).

They sell books on Amazon, Half. com, etc. and they give a certain
percentage of their profits to charity. most of those charities are
Christian (Catholic) oriented since they are from Notre Dame.

If they can't use the books, they discard them to land fills or recycle
them etc (or at least told me that they tried to).

When I first heard of them, I contacted a friend who lives in South Bend
(Indiana) and works at the library at Notre Dame. She hesitated and told me
to be cautious a bit (because I think it does not always work as smoothly
as advertised) -but then added that her local book club run by the JCC (or
Federation) relies on them for most of the Jewish books that she reads.
Which sounded positive to me.
