GENEALOGY BASICS FOR REFERENCE LIBRARIANS - March 28, 2017, 6:30pm, Center for Jewish History - Scholars Lounge Speakers: Moriah Amit and J.D. Arden, Ackmann and Ziff Genealogy Institute, Center for Jewish History. Libraries and archives of all kinds are witnessing an unprecedented surge of patrons interested in conducting genealogy research, including those patrons working in inheritance law, journalism, documentary films, historical fiction and non-fiction, or personal family history research. It is imperative that reference librarians acquire some basic tools for serving the unique needs of this diverse user group. At CJH, we have a very robust genealogy program which has seen enormous growth in our patron numbers from year to year. In this session, you will learn how to conduct a genealogy reference interview (and how it is unlike most other reference interviews) and which are the key genealogy resources you should become acquainted with. This session is for librarians of all levels, from MLS students to experienced reference librarians.
