Subject: [ha-Safran] AJL Conference 2017: NYC Tips and Tricks

Dear Safranim,
The programs are printed, the bags are about to be packed, the schedule is
set...here are some links that might be useful for your trip to the conference.
1. Trip Advisor
(https://www.tripadvisor.com/Travel-g60763-c170529/New-York-City:New-York:General.Tips.On.Nyc.Trip.html)
has a great listing of "tips and tricks" to navigate the city, including
helpful pieces of advice (DON'T BEND THE METROCARD!).  They also have a top ten
list:
https://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.tripadvisor.com%2FAttractions-g60763-Activities-New_York_City_New_York.html%23ATTRACTION_SORT_WRAPPER&h=ATNLF7d-JAr7DrXjhJUlDV0ptQsOukzSftvKnsTgDdQ1faA0EPiJobOMm3c9FLQxa4E_z2p43Xm86gNhKi2GGBgIqlcvsGe3_xltGOq8Fn6rKxF_52Jx4qGPkMN-h9CRuObvlLY
2. If you're interested in amazing kosher pizza, try Bravo's Pizza on 37th and
Broadway (http://www.bravokosherpizza.com). [This is my personal preference;
others might chime in and disagree!]
3. Time Out New York (https://www.timeout.com/newyork) is a fantastic resource
for things to do and places to go.
4. Want to go to a show at the last minute?  Download the todaytix app to see
what's available.   Those of you who bought tickets to the Tony-winning
Indecent are the lucky ones!  The show is closing at the end of June, so if
you're still interested in going, you might want to hurry up and see if there
are any left!
5. The High Line (http://www.thehighline.org/), a former railroad line that was
transformed into a park, is a great place to visit between the hotel and HUC.
It runs from Gansevoort Street in the Meatpacking District to West 34th Street,
between 10th and 12th Avenues.
6. Chelsea Market (http://www.chelseamarket.com/) is another fun place to visit
for an incredible taste of the city's gastronomic diversity.
7. But what about BOOKS?  The Strand Bookstore (http://www.strandbooks.com/),
with its "18 miles of books" is located just a few blocks up from HUC at the
corner of 12th and Broadway.  They have a rare book section as well.  A warning
- it is VERY difficult to leave this store without purchasing anything.
8. The New York Public Library's grand mid-Manhattan building is located at
42nd St. and 6th Avenue (https://www.nypl.org/).  If you go, be sure to stop in
at the Jewish Division on the main floor!
Do you have any questions about your visit?  Reply here, and our local team
(and those who are like locals) would be happy to help!
New Yorkers (or NY lovers) what else is not to be missed?
See you very soon!
