Rachel, I loved that book, too. I think it is this one, but I don’t remember a cat and we no longer own it---it’s from 1959. I’m sure someone out there can still find it in their library and tell you if there is a cat involved!

Unfortunately, he can't remember the name, but here are some clues: 1) The book was published in the 50s or 60s, with the usual 2-3 tone illustrations of that period. 2) The title might have had "challah" in it. 3) The story takes place in a bakery with a missing challah and a cat.
