A week or so ago there was a lively discussion on Hasafran about the need for middle grade biographies of prominent Israelis. PJ Our Way (sort of like PJ Library but for middle grade readers) would love to receive manuscripts of biographies about Israelis such as:
Yoni Netanyahu Sara Aronson Natan (Anatoly) Sharanski Omri Casspi Natali Portman Leah Goldberg Eliezer ben Yehuda Itzhak Perlman Hanna Senesh Eli Cohen Golda Meir Naomi Shemer Shimon Peres Gal Gadot Are you a writer? Do you have writer friends? PJOW encourages submission of manuscripts with an incentive award! For each *new*, unpublished story submitted to PJ Our Way from September 1, 2017 through December 31, 2018 that is accepted by the Book Selection Committee for use in the program, we will present the author with *$5,000*. This award is truly an award – it is separate from and in addition to any monies received by the author from a publisher. You may submit three complete chapters and an outline as an initial submission instead of a completed manuscript. If the Committee decides that this initial submission has potential to be a PJ Our Way selection, we will award the author *$2,000*. Once the author submits the completed manuscript and it is accepted for use in the program, the author will be awarded the remaining *$3,000*. Stories may be submitted by anyone, including authors, agents, and publishers. Multiple stories by one author are eligible. The only disqualifying factor is if the story is already available in the trade market or has previously been considered by PJ Our Way’s Book Selection Committee – that is to say, it must be new. Due to the high volume of submissions received, we are only able to contact authors whose book or manuscript is one that we would like to discuss further. Expected responses could take 3-6 months. We respectfully request that authors and agents do not contact PJ Our Way to check the status of a submission. Submissions can be made as a PDF to [email protected]. Please spread the word!
