Hello Safranim: I know I said I would not be posting directly about the after conference Amherst trip on Hasafran, but we have added an exciting opportunity to the trip that I wanted to let everyone know about. (This will all be posted on the website for future reference)
The original idea was to leave after the Wednesday lunch and go to Northampton to visit Rich Michelson's gallery, then stay overnight, and then go on private tours the following day to the Eric Carle Museum and the Yiddish Book Center. Now we are offering a Wednesday evening option to choose either the visit to the gallery or a visit to Ken Shoen's remarkable bookstore in Deerfield, Mass-about 20 minutes from Northampton. All transportation to and from Northampton, and a kosher dinner meal will be provided while shopping there. Ken's website states that: Wandering the aisles is an intellectual journey that stretches into 19th century Vienna and Berlin and ends up in the modern world. It is the kind of place to linger and delight in the journeys of others and commence your own pilgrimage. It is a respite from the maddening pace and pressures of modern life, a place of solace and also community. Schoen Books specialties are: Judaica in all languages, but especially German Judaica, books on the Holocaust, exile and refugee writers, Israel, and psychoanalysis. Ken Schoen catalogs recent acquisitions and sends lists out to subscribers. Click on the website in the itinerary below to get more of an idea. And contact me if you wish to be on the emails for this trip in general.
