Greetings to all! I hope that your Passover is going well!
I have a question: Does anyone know anything about the book above? It is a very nice leather bound book with 142 illustrations by Gustav Dore'. I have seen one that is similar, but it was produced by Sinai Publishers. This is one put out by Hefetz Publishing, Jerusalem. I do not know the date - but the Sinai books I've seen are 1956. This book was edited and has an introduction by Haim Schachter. On the binding - there is a metal piece - that is a map (relief) of Israel in copper. Under this copper centerpiece is printed "Bezalel, Jerusalem, in gold . I know that is an art school - but not sure what it has to do with this - unless the copper map was produced there? The books from the Sinai press have similar designs - but not the map of Israel - apparently all of them had different images on the front in some sort of metal. Israel is written in both Hebrew and English (the whole book, nearly, has Hebrew and English for the illustrations and the introduction. Unfortunately my Hebrew leaves much to be desired. The leather binding is tooled on the back and front. Does anyone know any more about these books? They are not expensively priced - I've seen $25 - $75. Thanks so much! Nancy
