That earlier, in print version of the Encyclopedia Judaica has beautiful
illustrations that the subsequent updated edition doesn't include. It also has
a 100 year Jewish/secular calendar that the newer edition doesn't have. The
online Gale version seems to be accurate--but it's indexing is awful. There
are no "see" or "see also" options and searches must be an exact match to their
entries and spelled according to their transliteration --otherwise you come up
with nothing. Sometimes I have to use the in print index to ascertain how to
search for the entry--unless, of course, the topic/person is post 1972 and it
won't show up in that earlier edition. My inprint copy of the new edition was
destroyed during a library flood. I repurchased that set, and I flooded again.
I still had the old edition from the 1970's, and I kept that set through our
move to much smaller quarters. I'm not sorry I kept it. I rarely need to use

I remember discussion about Gale publishing the online version a few years back
with errors. Are there free accurate electronic sources out there?. Is it
necessary to keep this set? Please let me know your thoughts.
