Dear Colleagues,

In August, I participated in an amazing educational program to Germany funded
by Germany Close Up. Below is a description for the December program. This is a
heavily subsidized tour for North American students and young professionals. I
participated through the partnership between Classroom without Borders (a
non-profit Holocaust educational organization based in Pittsburgh) and Germany
Close Up. The Dec. program is an Open Program (open in this case means that it
is not run with a partner organization). Check the link below for more details.
It was a once in a life-time experience.

Germany Close Up – American Jews Meet Modern Germany is a youth encounter
program for Jewish, North American students and young professionals in their
twenties and thirties. It was established in October, 2007, and is currently
administered by Aktion Sühnezeichen Friedensdienste e.V. (Action Reconciliation
Service for Peace) in cooperation with the New Synagogue Berlin – Centrum
Judaicum Foundation. Germany Close Up is funded by a grant from the German
Government’s Transatlantic Program, which draws on funds from the European
Recovery Program (ERP) of the German Federal Ministry of Economics and
Technology. As such, the program aims to encourage German-Jewish-North American
dialogue as well as to strengthen the involvement of the North American Jewish
community in transatlantic relations. To achieve this aim, Germany Close Up
brings groups of young, North American Jews to Germany for short educational
trips lasting one to two weeks. These trips aim to enable participants to gain
their own perspective on Germany through individual experience.

The December Program runs from 16 - 22nd. More info and application can be
found here:

Shanah tovah,

Gail
