Hi there

Some of you will remember that I spoke about the closure of the Jewish
Studies Library at the Kaplan Centre for Jewish Studies and Research at the
University of Cape Town at the AJL convention in 2017. A Special Collection
of approximately 2000 books - pre-1923 Judaica and Hebraica as well as
South African Yiddish and Hebrew books was to remain at the Kaplan Centre.

Due to the renovation of the Centre these books were only unpacked in
January this year. It was a mammoth task and we had to dispose of a large
number books due to lack of space. I must thank Arthur Kiron at U Penn for
helping us out by taking over our collection of books from the Jewish
Cultural Reconstruction.

The Centre was officially reopened on 22 May last week. A blog was posted
to highlight the rare books held by the Kaplan Centre. Here is the link.
