My father who is a retired dermatologist, was also an ABD in Jewish Studies at Columbia. He was more than a little of a Hebraist and general bibliophile, and has a large personal library of about 15,000 volumes. He also took many courses at JTS. He is moving and is looking to donate it.. Everything is in good to excellent condition. As he actually recently moved, the collection is now in storage in Howard Beach, NY. The Hebrew volumes are mostly academic, religious texts, and Hebrew literature. They are about 20% of the total. Some of the academic ones would be especially expensive. The English ones are mostly English literature, and non-fiction, like history, of some sort or another. I thought it would be very nice if there was some way that this collection could be preserved and donated to a Jewish institution, perhaps being a room of its own, under his name. Were it necessary, but also sufficient for that purpose, perhaps the a donation could include 25-50k for such a room, I haven't broached that yet. However, I meant to first inquire if there might be a possibility for such a donation to this, or some other institution in the US. If not, perhaps you might now of some other possible institution here or abroad. Thank you for any assistance.
