Dear readers,
The new book, “The Girl in the Haystack,” tells the true-life story of an
Atlantic City woman who, as a young Jewish girl in western Ukraine during
World War II, survived a pogrom, the Tuchin ghetto, and nearly two years in
hiding, in haystacks. Key to her survival were a Ukrainian farmer, since
recognized by Yad Vashem, and his dog.
While the book isn’t a children’s book, per se, it reaches middle readers.
Described as “moving and original,” “riveting,” and “historically accurate”
by, respectively, Omer Bartov, Michael Berenbaum, and Modecai Paldiel, the
