Yiddish Book Center
Applications for Great Jewish Books are open.
Yiddish Book Center
Dear fellow Yid,
/“I believed in myself more” … “I learned how important my Jewish
identity is to me” … “that we have so much to learn in the modern world
from writers in the past” … “I learned more about inclusivity and being
open to everyone” … “Applying to this program is one of the best
decisions I have ever made.”/
These are just a few of the comments we’ve heard from participants of
the Yiddish Book Center’sGreat Jewish Books Summer Program
<http://support.yiddishbookcenter.org/site/R?i=bmap34qJs2AVWXC08Od6AA>.
This year’s program, taking place July 26–31 in Amherst, Massachusetts,
will give rising high school juniors and seniors an opportunity to
discover the treasures of modern Jewish literature, explore their
identity, and connect to a vibrant culture through a wide-ranging
literary canon.
Although the program’s focus is on reading, this is not school in any
conventional sense: Great Jewish Books is a lively program full of
social, cultural, and recreational opportunities—and no grades. Students
spend mornings discussing diverse texts with college professors,
afternoons engaging in social activities, and evenings listening to
guest authors. Some of the most meaningful moments happen during the
in-between time: late-night conversations with peers, lively debates
during lunch, or lingering discussions with faculty after class. In just
five days, students make lasting friendships and return home inspired.
And the best part? /Every admitted participant receives a full
scholarship for the cost of tuition, room, board, books, and special
events./
If you know any bright, enthusiastic teens who love to read, please
encourage them to apply today
<http://support.yiddishbookcenter.org/site/R?i=pq3YoqURH78Kuxh7K8hsCw>.
Applications are due *March 9*. No specific background—no knowledge of
languages or writers or Jewish religious or cultural heritage—is
required. Anyone with an interest in Jewish literature and culture is
welcome to apply. If you have questions, please don’t hesitate to be in
touch.
/A sheynem dank/—thank you for helping us spread the word!
Sincerely,
