Temple Sinai (Washington DC) uses the Elazar system of classification. Given that there are no recent updates, we are having increasing trouble classifying current books. A few examples of areas where we are finding Elazar lacking include immigration, multi-racial themes, different family structures, antisemitism, Holocaust (for example descendants of survivors and victims), and historical time periods. We have started making our own categories, but we would be interested in hearing how other libraries are handling this. If you have any suggestions or ideas, please contact Librarian Ruth Polk at [email protected].
