Shalom, First of all, I hope you are all safe and well.
At the beginning of this unprecedented shut down, I created a presentation on the history of printing the Survivors Talmud, which is often referred to as the U.S. Army Talmud. It would be a fitting tribute on Memorial Day to learn about what the U.S. Army did for the survivors besides providing food and shelter. You can read the beautiful dedication to the U.S. soldiers below, followed by a link to the recording, a bibliography, and most importantly, a survey of holdings of this historic edition. I realize many of you will not have access to your collections to enable you to answer this survey intended for both public and private holdings, but I didn't want to forget to share. I would like to thank so many of AJL members for their help with the project over the years. The list is long, but I am grateful for the extraordinary efforts made by Yaakov Aronson, Lital Beer, Lenore Bell, Shuli Berger, Sharon Horowitz, Marlene Schiffman, Deena Schwimmer, David Selis (who created the first bibliography for me when he was at AJU), Gail Shirazi and Michaela Ullman, Looking forward to seeing you ALL at AJL's Digital Conference 2020: Staying Connected! Jackie "This edition of the Talmud is dedicated to the United States Army. This army played a major role in the rescue of the Jewish people from total annihilation, and after the defeat of Hitler bore the major burden of sustaining the DPs of the Jewish faith. This special edition of the Talmud published in the very land where, but a short time ago, everything Jewish and of Jewish inspiration was anathema, will remain a symbol of the indestructibility of the Torah. The Jewish DPs will never forget the generous impulses and the unprecedented humanitarianism of the American forces, to whom they owe so much." https://www.aju.edu/byachad-together/events/From-Darkness-to-a-Great-Light-Creating-the-Survivors-Talmud https://tinyurl.com/SurvivorsTalmudBibliography https://tinyurl.com/SurvivorsTalmudHoldings
