Dear AJLers, I hope you are excited about the AJL conference going digital! It's such a relief that we will still be having an event, even though we can't meet in person.
Of course, a digital conference is going to require a lot more use of technology. We can't expect our presenters to worry about tech while they are speaking, so we are forming an AV Club of volunteers to help monitor the Zoom sessions. The AV Club will do things like muting and unmuting participants at the right times, watching the chat and making sure the speakers know what questions to answer, and removing troublemakers from the session in the unlikely event that we get "Zoom bombed <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zoombombing>." And don't worry, you will still get to enjoy the conference. We plan to recruit enough volunteers so that each AV Clubber only needs to help in one or two sessions. We are looking for people who have gotten comfortable using Zoom and are familiar with the basics. We will provide some light training on the functions with which we need your help. Oh, and of course we are looking for people who are planning to attend the conference, June 28-July 2 (only $36 for members!). I want YOU to be a member of this AV Club. What do you say?
