Dear colleagues: Thank you for organizing a truly remarkable conference -- Zoom and Socio worked beautifully, a great combination & discovery - and thank you to all the contributors for their excellent, excellent presentations! I agree with Zachary that it became an impressively international event. It was wonderful and inspiring to learn about so many collections, initiatives, and projects. The online format made participation possible not only for many colleagues abroad but also nationally. I can only speak for my institute - but I think it applies to many - the very affordable conference fee made it possible that more colleagues could attend the conference. Although I missed the surprise encounters and chats of an onsite event (and the tours) - the side-chats compensated to a degree - and I am convinced that technology will support chance encounters and chats even more in the future. I hope that future AJL conferences will always have an option of participating online, it turned out to be very enriching.
Thank you again to the organizers, presenters, and participants, happy 4th of July Renate Renate Evers Director of Collections Leo Baeck Institute at the Center for Jewish History 15 W 16th Street | New York, NY 10011 [email protected] Please visit http://www.lbi.org | 1938projekt.org | Shared History Project | Support our work https://www.lbi.org/coronavirus-update/ -----Original Message----- From: Hasafran <[email protected]> On Behalf Of Zachary M Baker via Hasafran Sent: Thursday, July 2, 2020 10:18 PM To: Hasafran <[email protected]> Subject: [ha-Safran] AJL Conference 2020 I’d like to express my profound appreciation and gratitude to all of the organizers of and participants in this year’s AJL conference. The coronavirus pandemic turned the conference into an impressively international event, with a steady flow of excellent sessions. It was great to “see” everybody — and I’m sure I’m not alone in saying that learned a lot. Next year in...? Zachary Zachary M.
