Dear friends and colleagues, I hope this email finds you in good health. I am writing to invite you to a special event celebrating the 10th annual Norman E. Alexander Lecture in Jewish Studies <https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://library.columbia.edu/libraries/global/jewishstudies/nealectures.html__;!!KGKeukY!k_Z-Yj7Vt7L4fEMDMwq4mAnzLf28-8kbD52sFZQ4Ncc7QGRAOQH8bfTxRP8E5zpkQUY$ >, coming up in a few short weeks on December 2, at 12:30 PM EST. To celebrate a decade of lectures on Jewish Studies topics, this years' event will focus on scholarly work taking place with the rich collections in the Norman E. Alexander Library for Jewish Studies. Three excellent scholars will each give a short presentation of their research, and we will see highlights of truly unique materials from the collections.
The lecture is free and open to the public, but registration is required, at the following link: events.columbia.edu/go/nea10 - Dr. J. H. (Yossi) Chajes (Wolfson Professor of Jewish Thought in the Department of History at the University of Haifa and the Director of the Ilanot Project) will discuss his work on kabbalistic manuscripts and scrolls - Dr. Francesco Spagnolo (Curator of the Magnes Collection of Jewish Art and Life and Associate Adjunct Professor in the Department of Music at University of California at Berkeley) will share music relating to the Jewish community in Corfu - Alexis Hagadorn (Head of Conservation at Columbia University Libraries) will describe what she discovered in analyzing paint samples and bindings. Looking forward to seeing many of you! Please feel free to share this with your lists. My best, Michelle Margolis (Chesner) Norman E. Alexander Librarian for Jewish Studies Columbia University VP/President-Elect, AJL
