*Senior Manager for Academic and Public Engagement*


Home to the world’s largest and most comprehensive archive of Jewish
history and culture held outside Israel, the* Center for Jewish History *(the
Center) illuminates the modern Jewish experience for audiences today and
preserves it for future generations. Its five in-house Partner
organizations hold over five miles of archival documents, 500,000 volumes,
7.5 million digital assets, and thousands of artworks and artifacts. The
Center cultivates scholarship by preserving and providing access to these
collections and maintaining a vibrant, interdisciplinary community of
research fellows. The Center welcomes approximately 40,000 visitors onsite
every year for research in the reading room, exhibits, and an active
calendar of events run by the five Partners and the Center. Annually the
Center and its five Partners present over 1,000 events, including classes,
workshops, conferences, symposia, lectures, book launches, author talks,
films, concerts, plays, tours, and more.



The Center seeks a creative, self-starting, and organized *Senior Manager
for Academic and Public Engagement *to serve as the Center’s primary public
scholar and academic voice and to expand the Center’s research fellowship
program (approximately 50% of the position) and the Center’s public and
academic programming profile (the remaining 50%). This full-time position
will jointly report to the CEO and Chief of Archive and Library Services
and will oversee the Manager of Public Programs and Volunteers.



*Responsibilities:*

·        Envision and implement an engaging programming agenda that draws
on Partner collections, exhibitions, and trends in contemporary culture and
scholarship and appeals to the Center’s multiple audiences, from esteemed
scholars to the general public. This includes working closely with Partner
programming staff to support a strong set of programs for the whole
community; supervising and attending relevant programs (including weekends
and evenings as necessary); managing Virtual Scholar Forums; and
researching, identifying and building relationships with potential
presenters, institutional collaborators, and performers.

·        Guide and enhance the fellowship program, including the
Scholar-in-Residence program funded by the National Endowment for the
Humanities. Encourage a sense of community among fellows, serve as primary
liaison with fellows, arrange research seminars, facilitate the application
and selection process, and maintain connection with past fellows.

·        Manage related grants and assist development efforts associated
with academic and public engagement, including tracking grant requirements
and reporting deadlines and contributing to the drafting of proposals,
letters and reports.

·        Coordinate the work, communications, and meetings of the Center’s
Academic Advisory Council.

·        Prepare budgets and monitor associated expenses.

·        Maintain statistics on events and fellowships and compile
narrative reports when appropriate.

·        Develop outreach strategies and ensure effective promotion of
fellowships and programming.

·        Participate in other mission-driven projects as directed.

·        Stay current on professional and academic trends and best
practices, participate in professional organizations, and attend relevant
conferences and events as appropriate.



*Qualifications:*

   - Strong organizational and management skills; excellent team player;
   ability to communicate and collaborate effectively and diplomatically with
   diverse constituencies; experience handling multiple, competing priorities;
   polished, engaging presentation skills; and strong writing ability.

·        Commitment to the public humanities and the field of Jewish
history.

·        PhD strongly preferred, graduate degree required.

   - 3-5 years of relevant work experience preferred.

·        Strong grasp of academic culture.
