:How about Judie Oron's wonderful novel, *Cry of the Giraffe?* It's about two Jewish Ethiopian sisters, separated in the turmoil under Mengistu. One makes it to Israel, and it tells how the other sister (still enslaved in Ethiopia) is finally rescued. A powerful story.
