Safranim who use Elazar (and maybe also those who don't), I need some
classification help.
In the process of trying to catalog a new PJ library book called Gina From
Siberia, about Soviet Jews fleeing in the 1970s to the U.S., I came across the
shifting sands of geographical classification.
763 is listed as Eastern Europe with the following subheadings:
.4 Latvia.5 Estonia.6 Poland.7 Lithuania.8 Rumania
764 is listed as Russia (Including the former Soviet Union) with these
subheadings:
.2 Central Asian Republics.3 Belarus.5 Armenia.6 Ukraine.7 Moldavia (Including
former Bessarabia)
Obviously, room was purposely left open for additions and I assume changes.
Does it make sense to try to realign these subheadings to more closely reflect
current geopolitical realities, or since this also pertains to history, should
they remain the same?
