Architect, Dr. Elias Messinas, has been working for years restoring synagogues in Greece and documenting those that were to be destroyed. He has also documented the stories of the towns and their people. This is his second book on the topic. His first book was on the synagogues of Salonika and Veria. The official Greek attitude to synagogues in Greece has now changed for the better. They are funding (in part) the restoration and re-opening of some synagogues even in towns where there are few Jews left. Dr. Messinas and his wife Yvette Nahmia- Messinas have been passionate over the years about preserving the physical and historical culture and heritage of the Jews of Greece.
