AJL Presents: A Conversation with ALA President Candidate Eric Suess

Join AJL's Emily Bergman in conversation with Eric D. Suess, director of 
Marshall Public Library (Idaho), candidate for ALA president.

Suess is an active member of the Idaho Library Association, a chapter of ALA, 
where he previously chaired its Intellectual Freedom Committee. He was also a 
member of the ALA Council for more than ten years and was involved in several 
council committees, including the Policy Monitoring Committee, Committee on 
Legislation, and the Committee on Organization. He is currently a member of the 
following ALA divisions: Association for Library Service to Children, Core, 
Public Library Association, and Young Adult Library Services Association. He 
also belongs to several round tables, including International Relations Round 
Table, Intellectual Freedom Round Table, Graphic Novels and Comics Round Table, 
and Games and Gaming Round Table. 

This session will give Mr. Suess an opportunity to share his vision for ALA and 
allow AJL members to discuss issues specific to Judaica librarianship.

AJL Presents: The Photographer’s Son

The Photo that Saved Us (Hatsilum she histil otanu) by Maya C. Klinger won the 
Book Prize for an Outstanding Holocaust-related Book for Children and Youth 
from Yad Vashem. Now translated into English, The Photographer’s Son tells the 
true story of the Mandil family, who lived in Yugoslavia before World War II. 
The book details the family's escape from the Nazis and their rescue by an 
Albanian Muslim family, the Vesilis. In 2004, the Vesilis were recognized by 
Yad Vashem as Righteous Among the Nations for saving the Mandils and other 
Jewish refugees during the Holocaust. Klinger-Cohen's book “conveys educational 
values and brings children and youth closer to the topic of the Holocaust.” The 
author will discuss her works as well as the role of Albanian Muslims in 
rescuing Jews during the Holocaust.

Join AJL's Sally Stieglitz in conversation with Cindy Hohl, director of policy 
analysis and operational support at Kansas City Public Library (Missouri), 
candidate for ALA president.
Hohl is past president of the American Indian Library Association and is an 
active member of other ALA affiliates, including the Asian/Pacific American 
Librarians Association, Black Caucus of ALA, Chinese American Librarians 
Association, and REFORMA: The National Association to Promote Library and 
Information Services to Latinos and the Spanish-Speaking. As a member of the 
Public Library Association (PLA), a division of ALA, she currently co-chairs 
the Membership Advisory Group, and was a member of the PLA Strategic Plan 
Review Team. Hohl is also a member of several round tables: Intellectual 
Freedom Round Table, Library Research Round Table, and Social Responsibilities 
Round Table. 

This session will give Ms. Hohl an opportunity to share her vision for ALA and
