Gratz College seeks a part time processing archivist to do basic processing of its Lena Allen-Shore collection. Lena Allen-Shore was a Holocaust survivor and philosopher, poet, writer, businesswoman, and educator. She authored seventeen books in English and French, composed over 100 songs (lyrics and music), and wrote a Cantata<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://collections.ushmm.org/search/catalog/bib8980__;!!KGKeukY!yHMyzoq49U830eW-JyucjdpQT2x3kQvDZOewvFW62tvEw-GZDgpvM2xnqbRmXZl2lpzDPaDlVZJFDq19KleWKehiYj8C3KArgA$ > that was performed in Poland for the 50th anniversary celebrating the liberation of Auschwitz. The records document Allen-Shore’s life surviving the Nazi occupation as a Jewish woman hiding in plain sight as a Christian, her experiences in the Polish Resistance, and her life in Paris and Montreal after the war. The collection includes personal papers, manuscripts, teaching materials, letters, among other things. The collection has already been roughly organized. We expect that the processing will take 125-160 hours. Deliverables will include basic finding aid and spreadsheet inventory and rehousing into page boxes. Candidates should be able to work primarily independently with support from our full-time Digital Archivist and Director of Digital Scholarship. This is a short term, in person position, paid at $30/hr. Days and hours are somewhat flexible. We generally work in our Melrose Park, PA (suburban Philadelphia) campus on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, conventional business hours. Required Qualifications
* Candidates must have completed graduate course work in archival, library, or information management, and/or graduate course work in Museum Studies, Public History, or another related discipline. * Strong technical skills and knowledge of archival standards and best practices. * Ability to work independently and collaboratively. * Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. Preferred Qualifications * Familiarity with ArchivesSpace. * Familiarity with Jewish history and culture. * Familiarity with Polish and/or French.
