Dear Friends, This Thursday evening, December 5 at 5pm, *BOOKHOUSE THURSDAYS*, located on the 6th floor of the Center for Jewish History near Union Square in Manhattan, will show Tariq Alì’s short film:
*MY LIFE, MY LIBRARY AND THE LEFT* The 15 minute film features his interview with polymath, bibliophile, and book dealer Chimen Abramsky, produced a few years before the scholar’s death in 2010. You may know of Abramsky from his grandson Sasha Abramsky's celebrated 2014 memoir, *The House of Twenty Thousand Books.* Following the short film, the Primo Levi Center's own Alessandro Cassin and I will discuss the film and *House of Twenty Thousand Books* and the story it tells: For over fifty years, Abramsky amassed a legendary collection of socialist literature and Jewish history. Chimen and his wife, Miriam, hosted epic gatherings in London that brought together an amazing mix of people, including Eric Hobsbawm, Isaiah Berlin, and Piero Sraffa, all bound together by books, politics, and ideas. Abramsky's life was a tumultuous journey through the vanished worlds of Eastern European Jewry and the intense battles of modern politics. *Want to attend the film and discussion?
