Dear people with answers, I ran many book clubs as a public school librarian but the dynamics are very different in our synagogue supplemental school. We- a very enthusiastic parent who home schools and I- are considering a middle grade (4-6, but in reality probably a grade or two on either side) after kiddush on Shabbat book club.
Because we are not sure the kids will actually read the books, we are thinking of using short stories that can be read aloud at the session with the kids following along and chapters from not-too-long-novels. Has anyone ever tried to run a book club this way, especially using selected chapters? What books have you had success with? Any other hints? Thanks in advance Aileen GrossbergLampert LibraryCongregation Shomrei EmunahMontclair, NJ
