Shalom from Canada. Those of you (older) library folk who have been around AJL since the '90s might remember me as "the librarian who likes to talk about Jewish comics". I still like to talk about comics, but I haven't had as much to say / write since I got involved with other things circa 2020. However, I felt compelled to share 3 short items that I became aware of with the group, as I see noone seems to have mentioned them on hasafran yet, If you've read the book From Krakow to Krypton, you'll recognize the author's name (Arie Kaplan). But you might not know that he also writes graphic novels occasionally including The Day I Became a Potato Pancake. I don't know if it'll be reviewed in AJL Reviews, but there's a JBC review online at https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.jewishbookcouncil.org/book/the-day-i-became-a-potato-pancake__;!!KGKeukY!zTnxAcDsvIn41Kcm7P98VkePWhiTf-KgUEyGrBINuRytQnb6t2aRGnFgM28c2FfggFH1HP3iHfEHBm4P-08l12_jw3PtRxXLMGI$ I'm excited to get a copy of Mendel the Mess-Up by former Edge City cartoonist Terry Laban. I'm sure Heidi Estrin will have more to say about the book & author in the near future. Finally, I was disappointed (though not surprised) to learn that Joe Sacco is busy crafting more anti-Israel material. If you attended my session at the 2008 AJL conference, you might recall my calling attention to Sacco's "comics journalism" which had even gotten published in such esteemed publications as Time Magazine and New York Times Magazine. My introduction that led with Sacco is online at https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://israelincomics.blogspot.com/2008/04/introduction.html__;!!KGKeukY!zTnxAcDsvIn41Kcm7P98VkePWhiTf-KgUEyGrBINuRytQnb6t2aRGnFgM28c2FfggFH1HP3iHfEHBm4P-08l12_jw3PtfFmvMBc$ , as well as my discussion of the 1990s which included his work during the period- https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://israelincomics.blogspot.com/2007/11/1990s.html__;!!KGKeukY!zTnxAcDsvIn41Kcm7P98VkePWhiTf-KgUEyGrBINuRytQnb6t2aRGnFgM28c2FfggFH1HP3iHfEHBm4P-08l12_jw3PtI9XHZ7s$ His latest work is titled War on Gaza. I don't think I could write a decent review of it for AJL Reviews, but maybe someone else will try.
