Hi All. Our next RAS Cataloging Committee meeting is on Friday, October 17th at 9am PST / 12noon EST, and will be focused on the intersection of Wikidata and the Hebraica / Judaica community.
Ari Kleinman and Jasmin Shinohara have been attending sessions to learn more about the Program for Cooperative Cataloging (PCC) program for Entity Management Cooperative, or EMCO, as it pertains to Wikidata. The goal of attending these sessions is to learn more about how non-NACO entity management could potentially enhance our work as Hebraica / Judaica catalogers. We would now like to open up a conversation for those who are interested in order to discuss what entities related to Hebraica / Judaica we would want to focus our work on. This would include both creating new entities, and adding references to existing ones. We also want to discuss what minimum standards we would want to set up for creating these entities, while considering anything notable or specific to Hebraica and Judaica. The current standards are being developed, and are very much evolving. The goal is for our standards to largely reflect what comes out of PCC, while recognizing that there may be unique needs for our community. For those who are not familiar with WIkidata, please feel free to find more information here. If you would like to access more information about the Wikidata Community of Practice, please find more information here. Recordings to specific sessions (as well as notes and summaries) are located here. Thank you, and please feel free to let us know if you have any questions!
