Dear Bernice Harris,

I am the newly appointed librarian for Bangor, Maine's Jewish community.
The library is housed at Congregation Beth El. Our collection has been
built and beautifully maintained for over fourteen years by congregant Riva
Berleant, who has a graduate degree in library science. I also have an
M.L.S. degree.

The collection of over 3,200 books is catalogued and properly shelved. It
covers a wide range of subjects of interest to our Jewish community. A
separate section of books for children is housed near the classrooms of our
Hebrew School, situated in the same building as the shul and main library.

All work for the library is performed by volunteers, which places limits on
what we can do, but also offers opportunities for book-minded members of
our community to participate.

I hope this helps your effort, which sounds like an act of Tikkun Olam to
me.

With best wishes,

Michael Alpert
